Bob Feller

On this date in 1941, Bob Feller* became the first major leaguer to enlist in the Armed Forces after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The 23 year old Navy recruit had already won 107 major league games.

"Baseball in the Navy was much more fun than it had been in the major leagues."

*Sad news regarding 92 year old Feller who was placed in hospice care yesterday due to a variety of serious ailments.

Wow, that's sad to hear. Feller's a wonderful link back to 1930s (!) baseball and one of the best fan-friendly guys you could meet.

There are probably more signed Bob Feller cards than unsigned cards.
