Baseball has been played since the 19th Century....
....and we still have players sliding into first base?
Did you know Gardner used to be an infielder?
They moved him because he wouldn't run the runners back to the bag they came from in "pickles".
He used to always spell "fundamentals" wrong on spelling tests in grade school too.

Exactly. I've heard it called "false hustle." That's exactly what it is.
You can't tell them that they CANNOT slide into first base because there will be times when they need to slide to avoid a bad throw so you leave them that option and this is what happens. I have seen Gardner slide into first before so not impressed with his decision-making.
