A player needs 502 plate appearances to be eligible for the batting crown
You can be darn certain that Bud pushed this thing through at the speed of light.
He wasn't taking any chances on "Tainted Melk" winning that thing.*
*Melky is presently second at .347, 15 points behind Andrew McCutchen at .362 and Bud wasn't gonna take ANY chance on Melky winning that crown via a late McCutchen slump.

When a good time turns around
You must whip it
You will never live it down
Unless you whip it
No one gets away
Until they whip it
I say whip it
Whip it good!

(more) Profound clubhouse thoughts
"He's lumberjack strong." - Andrew McCutchen on Ross Ohlendorf
3 stars out of 5 on the "cliche-meter": He is doing much better than his uncle who made his living as a roadside attraction.

Almost gave up on this dull game
And then:
1. The home plate umpire gets hit with a ball in the....(well you know where).
2. Neil Walker successfully hits a pitch-out and moves the runner along.
3. Andrew McCutchen forgot what his Little League coach told him and stole third base with two outs.
4. Now Nate McLouth is acting a little weird in his own dugout seemingly getting both defensive and aggressive with teammates after a making a bad error.
All in a half-inning.
Hanging around now!
P.S. Now catcher's interference!

The goal is to lose with dignity

Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com recently had a sit down with Andrew McCutchen of the Pirates. Here is just one question and answer:
MLB.com: What are your expectations for 2010 from both a team perspective and an individual one?
McCutchen: From a team perspective, it will be more just being ready to play every day and basically preparing yourself right now to be able to play a full season and do what we need to do to win games. We want to be able to say we got beat and not that we lost. That's the biggest thing for us as a team.
And the Pirates have fans why?

Isn't that Andrew McCutchen?

In a fluff piece by Patrica Sheridan of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, we learn the following "fun facts" about Andrew McCutchen:
* His favorite place is Dubai.
* He doesn't drink.
* His favorite book is "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Suess.
* In response to the question "What wouldn't you leave home without?" he responds "my shoes". Very practical.
If you ever find yourself on a beach in Dubai and see a guy relaxing with his feet up (with shoes on or nearby), drinking a Shirley Temple and reading "Green Eggs and Ham", that is probably Andrew McCutchen.
Just a hunch.

Who plays for the Pirates now?

What is the record for trades by one team in a season?
That Andrew McCutchen looks pretty good. Can't have that. When does he get put on the trade block?
How would you like to be the exit interview person in HR here?
You can't have a garage sale every week. People will think the stuff is all picked over.
