How does this work?

The Mets owner is attempting to void K-Rod's contract because of a domestic violence incident but is considering hiring Wally Backman as his manager who....ummm....well....just google him, ok?

Hey Mets!

You might as well make Ollie and Frenchy's contracts non-guaranteed too.

Make the Union fight you on three fronts.

What do you have to lose?

K-Rod arrested for assaulting father-in-law at Citi Field!

Man, those fathers-in-law!

They don't seem to realize that when you transfer title....

(K-Rod should lose that lipstick. I am NOT getting that.)

"Robot Manages Mets to Victory"

Francisco Rodriguez told reporters that he was up throwing in the bullpen numerous times in last night's 20 inning game. He says he threw around 100 pitches in the bullpen such that he had a "dead arm" when he finally entered the game in the 19th inning only to then blow the save.

Well, we know this. Mets manager, Jerry Manuel will only pitch his "closer"* at the "proper" time; that is when they have the lead and not even when the game is tied. This applies even when he must warm up the "closer" numerous times frying his arm out waiting for the lead so his "closer" can enter the game and get a "save". No really!

This of course is laughably dumb. This was not after all a split-second lapse of judgement on Manuel's part but was instead a continuous ongoing brain malfunction. Where was his bench coach or better yet, the pitching coach? Failure all the way around here if you ask me. Now because his manager was chasing a save, Rodriguez is likely out for a few games due to his workload yesterday, the great majority of which was not even during the game.

I know the Mets won but I sure hope Manuel is not patting himself on the back for his performance yesterday.

*Is that now a formal position in baseball?

K-Rod's melancholy blues

In today's LA Times, there is an article on Francisco Rodriguez titled "Baseball isn't as much fun anymore for ex-Angel Franscisco Rodriguez".

In it, K-Rod laments that baseball is just not as fun as it was when he played as a kid in Venezuela.

Says K-Rod: "Now you're not playing for fun, you're playing for your career. Pretty much you're an employee. Sometimes you don't want to see it that way. But that's pretty much the reality. The day you don't get the job done, the day you get hurt, the day you basically don't do what they ask you to do, they're going to throw you away and they're going to get somebody else to do your job. That's how it is."

Look, nothing that he says here is untrue but it is kind of bad form for a guy with a generous 3 year guaranteed contract to be complaining. I guess he is just going to have to "soldier on" with this job of his.

By the way, in the above card, I assume K-Rod was not wearing lipstick that day so if Topps altered this photo to make K-Rod look like a transgendered person or something, well then in that case, he does have something to complain about.

My .02.

K-Rod does not accept apologies. Save your breath.

As everybody has probably already seen by now, Francisco Rodriguez of the Mets and Brian Bruney of the Yankees had a little verbal (though it looked like K-Rod might have wanted it to be more) altercation in left field during batting practice before yesterday's game.

Video replays of the incident show K-Rod to be the aggressor in a "no doubt about it" kind of way and ultimately having to be physically restrained and removed from the scene by teammates. That said, as the Mets appeared to "have the field" at the time, I am not sure that it was quite appropriate for Bruney to approach K-Rod then in his attempt to apologize for something that he said about him in the paper. Maybe yes. Maybe no.

Ok, well anyway the apology was definitely NOT accepted. That much is clear.

After K-Rod's (not so) little outburst, the Mets proceeded to lose to the Yankees 15-0.

Moral of the story: Don't do that stuff!
