POST SCRIPT - I see Zumaya has a non-displaced fracture of the olecranon (elbow). Actually I had that years ago due to a bike crash but a little worse as mine was a displaced (clean break) fracture. Obviously no two injuries are the same but for me excruciating pain for a day or two followed by general pain for 4-5 weeks. Back to normal in 8-10 weeks with therapy and no surgery for me. Did a triathlon during treatment as unfortunately I prepaid. In my discussion with the ortho doctor and him showing me the x-rays, there really is nothing to "pop". It is not that kind of injury. I think Gerald just wanted to talk.

Earlier in the month, we commented on a December 30th incident involving "suite-fightin man" Gerald Laird of the Detroit Tigers and his brother, Brandon Laird where they were arrested after getting into a drunken altercation with various people in a suite/lounge at a professional basketball game in the U. S. Airways Center in Phoenix. At the time, there was not much known about the incident other than that the brothers were arrested for disorderly conduct and assault.

Frankly, I thought there probably was a pretty good untold story here and it looks like I may have been right.

Michael Ferraresi of the Arizona Republic reports on further details regarding this very interesting incident.

Not only were Gerald Laird and Brandon Laird involved in this incident but the Lairds' uncle and grandfather were also apparently part of the festivities.

Piecing together the description of events in the article, it appears that the Lairds were shouting derogatory remarks towards Charlie House, the wife of Celtics forward, Eddie House and other women in the area after which Brandon Laird apparently took a swing at one of the women. A bartender also told police that Mrs. House complained that she was being harassed prior to the fight. Mrs. House reportedly left the arena's lounge after accusing the Laird's 70-year-old grandfather of touching her inappropriately.

Gerald Laird said he felt that he was in danger and just trying to "watch the game and have some fun," according to his statements to police. He also told police the fight involved "some lady inside that was bragging about her husband playing for the Celtics."

"I don't know, I didn't try to hurt anyone or strike anyone," Laird told one officer. "The next thing I knew. I was in handcuffs."

Where is grandma in all of this?

If she was anything like my late grandma, let me tell you that this behavior by these guys would absolutely NOT be tolerated.

And grandpa's ALLEGED behavior?!

Oh man, let's just say if it was my grandma, you would see the mother (no pun intended) of all French-Canadian beatdowns. It wouldn't be pretty. You are not going to ALLEGEDLY grope other women while being married to grandma. Grandpa would be confronted with a whole five feet of raw unrestrained Quebec fury.

Maybe there is no grandma in the picture with the Lairds.

If not, that might explain a lot.

Gerald Laird - Suite fightin' man

According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, Tigers catcher, Gerald Laird and his younger brother, Brandon Laird, a prospect in the Yankees system were arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct on Wednesday in Phoenix.

The Laird brothers were attending a Phoenix Suns basketball game in an arena lounge/suite at the U.S. Airways Arena in Phoenix. Apparently, security guards had previously spoken to the brothers about their loud behavior. Later, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Andy Hill, "While security guards were trying to arrest the subject for disorderly conduct, the Laird Brothers interfered and assaulted the security guards".

Interesting.

I bet Gerald never made contact though.*

*Sorry, Gerald but when you hit .225, you open yourself up to this stuff. Nothing personal. I would have said the same thing if it was Neifi Perez or Mario Mendoza.
