Dallas Braden retires

"He's a tremendous player and a tremendous talent, and I don't care if I'm Cy Young or the 25th man on the roster; if I've got the ball in my hand and I'm out there on that mound, that's not your mound. You want to run across the mound? Go run laps in the bullpen. That's my mound." - after Alex Rodriguez ran across the mound when returning to a base as a baserunner after a foul ball by Robinson Cano

Don't worry Yankees!

You can still sign Cano to a long-term contract.

But at age 41.

He just needs to ripen a bit.

Nothing says baseball....

....like a bunt double.

(Even though his left foot appears to have been on the plate for an out)

Rick Sutcliffe says Verlander should not win the MVP because he is a pitcher and they have their own award

ESPN colleagues including Aaron Boone asked him if during his own Cy Young award season if he was given the MVP would he have given it back because he was a pitcher.

They asked him twice. He won't answer. Started talking about Robinson Cano's elbow pad and started comparing it to the pad Barry Bonds wore. Riveting response!

FAIL!

(We are at commercial break now and I bet he is telling his colleagues to not ever do anything like that again)

(more) Profound clubhouse thoughts

"This kid loves to play the game."

3 stars out of 5 on the "cliche-meter": I will take that over the production of guys like Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent who hated the game!

Good thing Robinson Cano does not hit that many home runs!

You know in like real games.

Because now he REALLY wouldn't!

Ever heard of Bobby Abreu?

Brian Cashman SO relieved that Teixeira was not involved!

I wonder if these Yankee and Red Sox fans who are viciously attacking each other on ESPN's Game Chat...

.... know that these players frequently socialize and like, you know have dinner with each other and stuff. They don't even hide it like professional wrestlers.

They are probably more apt to share a cab than attack each other on the street.

Just sayin'.

How true!

It is no secret that the best defensive player usually doesn't win.

It is the best defensive player that can also hit.

Don't think so?

How many Gold Gloves has Adam Everett won?
