On this date in 2012, the Red Sox fire manager, Bobby Valentine.

"Mount Everest erupts again." - call of David Ortiz' home run in 2004 ALCS (of course Mount Everest isn't a volcano)

What's with Buck?
Close game and only down one (7-6) and he's throwing behind Ortiz.
Yesterday ain't over!
Love the "chip on the shoulder" guys!
He does kind of look like him, ya know.

I wonder if these Yankee and Red Sox fans who are viciously attacking each other on ESPN's Game Chat...
.... know that these players frequently socialize and like, you know have dinner with each other and stuff. They don't even hide it like professional wrestlers.
They are probably more apt to share a cab than attack each other on the street.
Just sayin'.

Ortiz is a triple way from the cycle!
I am going to run some odds on this.
Just a sec.
Hmmm.
The program says those two phrases are "incompatible".
Carry on.
p.s. Loved that "Alex Buckner" play!

Unfocused musings

Ortiz no doubt in a bad spot there but that replay shows the most unathletic stride of an athlete that I have ever seen. His twin, Esther Rolle probably ran better in her day while alive.
Eric Karros in need of a sedative like a half-hour ago. You know how they say that belligerent drunks should watch tapes of themselves the next morning when they are sober? Someone should sit with Karros tomorrow and watch his post-game delirium while Broxton looks on in a befuddled state.
Too late for Mel Gibson though. "Sitting with him" reviewing behavior probably wouldn't do it. Doesn't work for everybody, you know.

Memo to David Ortiz

What David Ortiz should say

This is what he said:
"I'm honestly going to tell you guys what's up.
Right now, I have no answers.
I've got no information."
This is what he should have said:
"I am very sorry now but I wasn't then.
I will tell you one thing. It was not a female fertility drug.
Ban me from the Hall of Fame, whatever. But don't lump me in with him!"

David Ortiz says he will have his eyes checked

"I've been thinking about getting my eyes checked-for real," he said, "My vision has always been 20-20, and I'm not feeling anything crazy, but I'm going to get it checked out." This per the Associated Press.
Aw come on now! You CANNOT tell me that after all this time, that this has not been thought of or looked at yet. You just can't. Sorry, it is just not within the realm of believability that the Red Sox would not have had set him up for a simple eye/vision test sometime throughout this long horrid slump. They have Bill James on staff evaluating every baseball statistic known to man but they haven't had his eyes checked yet?
Please tell me that Big Papi is just joking around here and that this hasn't already been done.
I do like the "I'm not feeling anything crazy" comment though.
