Just when you thought it could not get any weirder, the Tigers have placed Dontrelle Willis on the 15 day DL for an anxiety disorder. The Tigers indicated that this condition was diagnosed with the assistance of blood tests conducted earlier this month even though there are apparently no lab tests that can diagnose an anxiety disorder. Apparently, the Commissioner's Office has accepted this as a basis for placing Willis on the DL.
Obviously, this makes no sense and rather than try and sort out what the Tigers are saying I think it is simply a case of the Tigers wanting to get this guy to DL to buy a little extra time to see if he can find the plate but as there is nothing wrong with his arm, they can't do it on the basis of an injury or a "tired arm".
You might as well just use a diagnosis of "inability to pitch".
Stay tuned.
