Another day without employment
We are a few weeks away from Spring Training and here is a sampling of Scott Boras' quotes regarding his client, Johnny Damon this week (and it's only half over).
"Johnny came to me about Detroit. He told me, 'If I can't play for the Yankees, I want you to let the Tigers know I want to play for them." (why?), Detroit Free Press.
"When he and I go to a Greek restaurant, he always orders octopus." (Oh, that's why. He can work up an appetite watching the thrown octopus at Red Wings games. I get it.), Detroit Free Press.
"They (Braves) are definitely a team that is on top of the list." (But do they have octopus down there?), Atlanta Journal Constitution.
"We got four or five offers...", Detroit Free Press.
It's like having to deal with Baron Munchausen or Jayson Blair.
How do you deal with someone like this?

Honestly, Damon and Boras have a right to do this kind of stuff, but Boras overplayed his hand and Damon again underestimated the importance of character in the eyes of fans.
Damon has shown that nothing matters but money and fame. He is a gun for hire. He was a Fenway legend and threw it away. He won the WS with the Yanks and apparently pushed away a two year 14 million deal.
Damon as a person may be cool, but Damon as a professional is a jerk.
What is the saying? "Judge a man's character by the company he keeps." ??? Boras and Damon look tied at the hip.
I wouldn't want him on the Orioles for free.
On your tombstone, do you really want it to say "He was mercenary like no other."?
