He took 243 for the team
Born today, retired infielder, Ron Hunt.
Perhaps Ron's greatest skill was knowing how to get hit by a pitch as he got hit 243 times in his 12 year career. In one game on April 29, 1969 against the Reds he got hit 3 times. Somebody is seriously leaning into pitches there.
"Some people gave their bodies to science. I gave mine to baseball"
Ron Hunt
I note that Ron now runs an instructional baseball camp in Missouri.
"Hey kids. Stand in there! Don't back down. They can't call it a strike if it hits you! It only hurts for a few seconds."
And he wonders why there are so few kids that sign up for his camp.

Reminds me of Coach Ernie Pantusso from Cheers, who, on the show, holds the minor league record for getting hit by pitches.
Brings back great memories. I haven't thought of "coach" in many years.
Thanks!
