He's not nice about it either when you leave

"We wish Felipe well. He's a fine player. We understand that a player gets frustrated when we contact all 30 teams numerous times and there is not a starting job for him."

Scott Boras on Felipe Lopez who just fired him.

Lopez put up a .310 batting average (the guy had 187 hits!) and a .383 OBP in 680 at bats last year. Just what is the problem?

I get the feeling Boras is a "last word" kind of guy.

Right on, CC.

In 2009 Lopez ranked as the overall 4th best second baseman in baseball (tied with Kinsler). The dude is also just age 30. No, I don't believe he will really be that good going forward, but he is certainly very valuable.

I think two things are at play. I believe Boras has finally burned all the bridges. He bluffs and lies too much. I also feel there is some kind of collusion going on with the owners. I don't know that it is as overt as the collusion that occurred from 1985-87 when guys like Raines, Dawson, and Jack Morris had no real offers, but it seems close.

The last two off-seasons are very suspicious. Adam Dunn, O. Hudson (twice), Lopez, Damon, Dye etc seemed almost stonewalled. The list is very long.

When you have dozens of baseball analysts outwardly wondering why so many players seem to be getting no serious offers, to me it extends beyond economics (baseball is still quite profitable in this economy), beyond post-steroid fears of older players, and beyond jerks like Boras.

Something is off-kilter.

CCC,

I hear you and frankly did not realize how good Lopez' stats were until I looked yesterday. He certainly should be "employable". Jermaine Dye also seems strange as he can still hit and nobody seems intetested. Maybe this is some "push-back" from the owners.

One thing that I thunk the owners should do in response to Boras is when he discreetly floats the name of a "mystery team" is if that team has no interest, their GM should immediately come out and say that to take some wind out of his sails. Frankly, the "mystery team" thing is so played out and probably of very little value right now as he has abused that tact for so long now, it is really a joke. He needs another strategy but somehow I bet next year we are going to be hearing about "mystery teams".

Boras' bullshit has finally gotten to the teams of the MLB.

I have a feeling Lopez finds a job very soon, with ol' Scotty out of the picture now.

I think Damon needs to take a cue here and run, run away from the Boras' business.
