Joe Foy - flying high
Born today, none other than third baseman Joe Foy.
Joe's career seemed to climax during a doubleheader in 1970. Foy was apparently under the influence of a drug (eventually confirmed to be marijuana) when Mets manager, Gil Hodges started him at third base. The first batter hit a hard ground ball to Foy. He never even saw it, but even after it went by him, he kept punching his glove and yelling, "Hit it to me, hit it to me."*
Look, I do not condone drug use in any form, and that includes marijuana, but you gotta admit, that is pretty freaking funny.
RIP Joe.
