Why bother?

On this date in 1978, the Rangers traded third baseman Toby Harrah to the Indians for third baseman, Buddy Bell.

Kind of like trading Brandon Phillips for Rickie Weeks; or something.

When Computer Boy told me the Reds and Cardinals were brawling last night, I had three thoughts before I even saw the tape

1. This is probably related to Brandon Phillips' "I hate the Cardinals" comments.

2. Tony LaRussa will play the "victim".

3. Hot-head and "mad at the world" Chris Carpenter will be prominently involved when he didn't need to be.

Too easy.

Brandon Phillips hit Bernie Brewer's slide!

Brandon Phillips of the Reds hit Bernie Brewer's slide with a 450 foot grand slam shot last night!

Does Bernie throw these back like Cubs fans?

It's like living near a golf course!

The realtor never said anything about this!

I hope he's got a parking pass at least.

(That green thing on the Cubs fan's arm is a little mystifying)

Brandon Phillips' non-accomplishment (except for the home runs)

Tonight on ESPN's Baseball Tonight, Tim Kurkjian did his edition of "Kurk Gems" which are noteworthy statistical accomplishments of the past week. One "gem" that he mentioned was that Brandon Phillips* executed a sacrifice bunt after he hit 2 home runs in a game. This was accompanied by a video of the bunt. (Lucky us!) Kurkjian mentioned that this is the first time since 2001 that this has been done.

(Stunned silence)

How dumb!

Who cares?!

Would have rather endured another mind-numbing promo for the Home Run Derby.

Is there a producer in the house?

*Oh, almost forgot. Make sure your Sharpie has fine tip when presenting to a player for an autographed card.

The supreme confidence of Brandon Phillips

"I feel like we're a better team than the Brewers" said Brandon Phillips after the
(30-20) Brewers completed a 3 game sweep of the (26-23) Reds.

Hmmmmm. How to reconcile this statement with known facts? This could be a challenge.

Well the Reds are not better than the Brewers on paper. They also just proved that they are not certainly better on the field. Ok, I give up as this is an exercise in futility.

Seriously though, I don't really fault Phillips for "thinking" this. As a manager or team owner, this is the type of attitude you would want in your players.

I just think that Brandon might want to work on his timing though. Maybe wait until one of your pitchers throws a no-hitter against them or something.

Just sayin.
