Damon's wife apparently saying "NO" to Detroit

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that Johnny Damon played golf Monday with White Sox catcher, A. J. Pierzynski and broadcaster Ken "Hawk" Harrelson.

Pierzynski and Harrelson reportedly lobbied Damon to sign with the White Sox. It is further reported that Damon's wife, Michelle would prefer him to play in a "more cosmopolitan city than Detroit".

Ouch!

Unfortunately, the cosmopolitan area of Detroit begins and ends with a few blocks of big buildings on Jefferson Avenue downtown. Beyond that few block area, Detroit is.....well I don't know if there is quite one word in the English language that describes it but it sure ain't cosmopolitan and I guess Mrs. Damon is not impressed.

At least she is honest unlike SOME OTHER PEOPLE!

So much for all that "Johnny loves octopus" rhetoric that we were hearing from Scott Boras the last couple of weeks.

I and everybody else in town saw that for the blatant b.s. that it was.

I know first-hand. I will tell you why.

I have eaten octopus. I was in a Greek restaurant downtown (outside of the "cosmopolitan" area) with a group of people a while back when our waiter brought a large dish of octopus to our table as an appetizer but nobody in our group ordered it. Apparently no other table in the restaurant ordered it either so the waiter told us it was ours free of charge.

Well we all tried it. Nobody liked it. It ain't good. It's very chewy and it tastes like rubber. It looks like octopus too. It sucks.

It's certainly not a reason to move to an "uncosmopolitan" city like Detroit.

Nobody that has ever eaten octopus was fooled by string-bean arm Johnny Damon or Scott Boras professed love of octopus.

We might not be very cosmopolitan around these parts but we are not dumb either.

Now if you guys are done, we got a team to assemble and root for here.

Not that it matters but our seats in our partial season ticket plan are in the section behind the plate where some of the Tigers wives sit.

Never heard a complaint.

I must say before anything that I am a Mets fan but unlike most New Yorkers, I don't hate the Yankees and I actually root for them unless they are playing the Mets. The only think I hate about the Yankees is 90% of their fans! But that is a rant for another day. As far as Damon goes, I hope he ends up in some small market losing franchise that is rebuilding and has no chance to win. He, or should I say his agent, turned down 14 million dollars over 2 years to play and probably start for the defending world champions and odds on favorites for 2010. Where will the greed end! He has NO arm left and quite frankly a liability in left field. He was decent batting with a .282 average, 24 hr, and 82 rbi while striking out 98 times. He is on the down side of his career and his douche bag agent says he wants 13 million each year for at least 3 years. Good luck with that! Be grateful Detroit. You won't regret passing on this player.

Unfortunately, I am not sure that Damon has officially passed on the Tigers offer so we are not yet out of the woods but in my experience, the wives usually win on these things.

Dissed!

I've never been to Detroit. I have been to New York. Manhattan, of course, has it's nice cosmopolitan places. Mrs. Damon WILL NOT find that in any other city in the US (with a baseball team). Maybe Toronto...but I'll chose Adam Lind over Johnny Damon, even if they're both left-field black holes.

On a side - do you own that Damon card? It's a beauty.

Roy,

I confess that I do not own that card and found it, available to all, in a google image search.

Just trying to make the site look nice, you know.

Yea, Lind can play on my team too. Damon, not so much.

Damon's wife is super hot. I bet her opinion counts for more than he'd like to let on. I'd be shocked to see Damon play in Detroit actually.

I have seen her. I think her opinion REALLY REALLY counts.

Wasn't Danny Bonaduchi a DJ in Detroit for a while? What more could Damon's wife ask for?

Wow! That brings back some memories.

Not that I listened. No, not me.
