Rules that apply only to one person are usually bad

Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star indicates that the Royals have fined shortstop, Yuniesky Betancourt an undisclosed amount for dropping an infield pop-up in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Rangers.

The Royals do not like Yuniesky's technique of catching pop-ups with one hand to the side of his body and below his head rather than above his head. Apparently he has always caught pop-ups this way while with the Royals and throughout his career.

They won't force him to change but they will be fining him every time he drops a ball using this technique. This doesn't apply to anybody else.* Just him.

??????

This is reason #614 why Kansas City will never become a free agent destination of choice.

*Ever seen Jose Guillen in the outfield?

Ironic thing is that I heard the Royals radio team talking about this subject during the first week of the season. They were remarking that the technique was fine until he dropped one and then there would be a firestorm. Guess they were right.
