Gaylord Perry
On this date in 1982, Gaylord Perry of the Mariners is ejected from a game for applying a foreign substance to the ball. It is the first time he has ever been caught by the umpires.

Too many rules going on here if you ask me

So Ian Kinsler has been suspended for one game for joining his team in an on-field celebration of a walk-off victory after he had earlier been ejected from the game.
?!?!
A game ejection does not end at the conclusion of the game?
Do the umpires do like an "attendance" thing during these celebrations?
Can he stand at the clubhouse tunnel to the field and give his teammates a celebratory thumbs-up?
Can he be seen?
Can he be anywhere in sight of the field?
Where is his line of demarcation?
Clarification needed here.

This is going to be good

Mike Salk of ESPN Radio 710 Seattle reports that Seattle Mariner Milton Bradley left his team last night in the middle of the game after striking out looking in the sixth inning with the bases loaded.
Apparently Bradley yelled at the umpire from the bench before being told by manager Don Wakamatsu to stop. Wakamatsu then said that he would handle the umpire himself and Bradley responded that someone had to say something and if Wakamatsu wouldn't, then he would.
Apparently a few minutes later Bradley walked back to his manager and said, "I'm packing my stuff, I'm out of here." Then he left.
My take?
You have a manager who is now in his second year of managing and has never ever been thrown out of a game and shows zero inclination to do anything to get thrown out.*
You also have an ill-tempered (to say the least) player who loves to argue with umpires and expects to be supported and/or protected by his manager.
The center won't hold here.
It just won't.
Stay tuned.
*I am not saying he should necessarily get thrown out for Bradley but Wakamatsu has got to "man up" one day and get thrown out for "something". It's well past "time". He can call up Bobby Cox if he needs any pointers.

Ichiro makes (indirect) response to a blog post!

Less than two hours after I posted here that I could not understand how no player, coach or manager from the Mariners has been ejected from a game this year, Ichiro gets thrown out of the game today against Toronto for arguing balls and strikes!
Not a coincidence! Ichiro was reading from the clubhouse!

When was the last time someone bought a ticket to watch the umpires?

This is what Shane Victorino should have asked when he was being thrown out of the game by an umpire 300 feet away who did not like that he raised his hands while standing in center field in reaction to a ball/strike call.
Hey guys, nobody pays to watch you call a game! You are not the show here.
Can't we provoke them to resign in mass like they did years ago and then rehire new ones?
We need a labor dispute or something.
