Yankees logic

Yankees fire pitching coach, Dave Eiland.

Brian Cashman says "it was my decision" and the reasons are "private".

Translation: "Somebody pays and it ain't gonna be me and it ain't gonna be Jeter and it ain't gonna be......"

The wit and wisdom of Jim Leyland

"They're goin' to the fu@&*n playoffs! We're not goin' anywhere!"

Dugout rant picked up by the game audio tonight.

Twitter reports from beat reporters in the clubhouse indicate that he is "going off".

How close are we to a repeat of the mid-season Colorado Rockies "I quit" declaration?

The dude does not handle adversity very well, we know that.

Maybe we crank-call his hotel room all night.

We can work in shifts!

"Hoping to ignite a spark"

Orioles president, Andy MacPhail explaining decision to fire Dave Trembley and install Juan Samuel as manager.

Patriots: 11
Ravens: 0

They did stop that two point conversion though.

I don't want Ozzie to get fired...

....because I don't want to lose out on stuff like this.

I do however want him to think that he is perpetually on the verge of getting fired so we keep getting stuff like this.

Paranoia brings out the "best" in him, I think.

Richard Nixon was just the opposite though.

What does a Brewers manager look like anyway?

Ok, by now everybody knows that Royals manager, Trey Hillman was fired and replaced by ex-Brewers manager, Ned Yost.

Per John Marshall at AP, this was Royals pitcher Zack Greinke's reaction to the hiring of Ned Yost:

"I'm guessing he was the manager of the Rockies, but I guess it could have been the Brewers because he looks like he would be a manager of the Brewers. So that's how much I know about him."

Hmmm.

Well, what does a Brewers manager look like anyway?

Is there a generic type?

Does the owner like a certain look?

To solve this mystery, I pulled some photos and cards of various Brewers managers throughout the years and even added Bernie Brewer for good measure.

I have been looking at this for a while, and I am not really seeing consistent similarities here. Like not at all.

They don't even have the white male thing going on here.

As a matter of fact this has kind of been a colossal waste of time that is now lost to me forever.

I am not sure if Greinke knows what he is talking about.

He hasn't even been fired and he is complaining that he can't get another job!

"There are a lot of horse(bleep) managers out there that were given two and three shots to manage in the big leagues. I don't see why not me."

"Why can't I get another chance with another team? Am I going to keep on doing it? Well, I have to see what is going on"

Ozzie Guillen via Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune.

Employers just love this stuff!

The guy just wants a job and doesn't like octopus by the way

ESPN reports that free agent infielder, Felipe Lopez has fired his agent Scott Boras after being reportedly disgruntled with being without a team less than a week before Spring Training.

The agent just couldn't seem to place Lopez who had a .310 batting average and a .383 OBP last year with a team. What can you do with a guy like that?

Me thinks somebody has a few too many clients and also might be enjoying a few too many octopus dinners with this Johnny Damon guy.

Lopez doesn't give a s#!% about octopus for what it's worth.

He would be cool with a patty melt and a new contract.

How pathetic!

According to the Sporting News, Johnny Damon told New York radio station WFAN that he would like to return to the Yankees, even if it can't be this offeason.

Damon said he would welcome a return to the team, whenever that may be. "Whether I start the season with them, or whether they trade for me at the deadline, or if they sign me next year or what not, I love New York," Damon told WFAN.

The Yankees wanted him!!

Scott Boras should be SO fired.

As in forced to wear a placard around his neck saying, "I am going to be sued by an ex-client" kind of fired.

Yea, that kind of fired.

Oh, and find some rotten rancid tomatoes too.

With worms coming out of them.

Nepotism will only take you so far in some businesses

I see that TBS has let go their lead baseball announcer, Chip Caray who was the son of Braves announcer, Skip Caray (who I personally loved) and the grandson of Cubs announcer Harry Caray (who I didn't love but I understood the appeal).

Chip Caray was of course brutal in calling the playoffs this year with numerous gaffes, misstatements and really an unfamiliarity with American League teams. I have mentioned some of these problems in detail before on this site so I will leave that alone now. It will be interesting to see where Mr. Caray lands but I think he might need some work before he could get back to broadcasting baseball on a national level again.

Lightning bolt!

A thought.

Hey Fox! See what TBS did? You got this guy named Tim McCarver and......

I want a divorce......and by the way, you're fired!

The Los Angeles Times has reported that Dodger owner, Frank McCourt has fired his estranged wife and team CEO, Jamie McCourt for "insubordination, non-responsiveness, failure to follow procedures, and inappropriate behavior with a direct subordinate."

Of course, one really REALLY big problem here is that Jamie McCourt claims to be a co-owner of the team by virtue of the team being a marital asset.

Mr. McCourt's letter to his former CEO also advises her to contact team human resources personnel to arrange "a time and date to gather your personal belongings."

Wow! He tells his wife to go to freaking Human Resources to get a box to pack up her belongings and who knows maybe schedule an exit interview? This is classic.

Ummm Frank, she says that she is part-owner of the team. I don't think that she is going to go ask to see Cassie in Human Resources who is the person there that has all the boxes for a cardboard box so she can load up her nameplate, paperweights, desk calendar etc. Dude, obviously your and her attorneys are going to be talking for quite a long time here and I don't have any personal experience with this but I know one thing and that is she is not going to pick up that box. That is not happening. Nice try though.

Oh, and I wouldn't try and have security escort her from the building because she could just fire them and then you are back where you started.

Look, just about every divorce is a tragedy and usually something to stay out of if you are not directly involved but this one sure has a colossal "train-wreck" aspect to it which makes it frankly impossible to avert your eyes. Mine anyway.

No matter how much you try to look for positives here this one just does not have an "amicable divorce" vibe to it.

It just doesn't.

It's all YOUR fault!

The Kansas City Royals who finished 65-97 this year will not be doing any major revamping of their coaching staff as they have made only one change. Of course, when you finish 65-97, somebody has to go. With that in mind, the bullpen coach, John Mizerock has been dismissed and will not be back next year.

Otay!

I bet they are all set to go now.

Rays dismiss hitting coach after offensive explosion

I note that the Rays announced Monday that hitting coach, Steve Henderson would not be back with the team in 2010. This was after a year in which the team set records in runs, home runs, on-base percentage and walks.

Okaaay.*

Of course, Steve Henderson is most famous for being one of a group of players traded for Tom Seaver. I wonder if his successor will be someone who was once traded for Todd Van Poppel or David Clyde or....

*Look, all sarcasm aside, I think I know what is going on here. Ownership is understandably unhappy with how the season turned out and in these circumstances usually there must be at least one change in the coaching staff and the hitting coach is frequently the sacrificial lamb. It just seems a bit crazy to can the hitting coach after such a successful offensive season.
